The next phase of community engagement is underway for the Vales Point Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with the local community invited to have their say on the concept design and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) investigations.
Delta Power & Energy (Delta), in partnership with Samsung Construction & Trading (Samsung), is continuing to develop the proposed BESS at the Vales Point Power Station site.
Following completion of early planning, technical studies and community and stakeholder engagement, a concept design has been developed. Work is now underway to prepare a comprehensive EIS that will assess the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of the proposed development.
As part of this process, we’re engaging with local residents, businesses, and stakeholders to gather feedback on the concept design and key matters being investigated in the EIS.

Next steps
Feedback received will be considered to finalise the proposal and EIS.
The State Significant Development (SSD) application, including supporting EIS, is expected to be completed and lodged in early 2026 for assessment by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. The EIS will be placed on public exhibition, providing another opportunity for the community to provide feedback.
We will continue to keep the community and stakeholders updated as the project progresses. Visit the project website for the latest project updates.
About the Vales Point BESS
The proposed project involves the construction, operation, maintenance and eventual decommissioning or re-powering of a 400-megawatt (MW) / 800-megawatt hour (MWh) BESS, supported by ancillary infrastructure.
Once complete, the BESS will provide essential energy storage capacity to power around 250,000 homes for two hours (based on average household load of 1.6kWh), helping to keep NSW’s electricity network stable and reliable as more renewable energy, including solar and wind, is added to the network. The project will also create local employment and procurement opportunities, providing a boost to the Central Coast and Hunter economies.
Located in the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone, the Vales Point site has a long history of energy generation and is uniquely positioned to play a significant role in NSW energy’s transition, beyond the operation of its current coal-fired units. Its existing infrastructure, skilled workforce, and proximity to Sydney and Newcastle make the site well-suited for energy storage projects and supporting NSW's transition from coal to renewable energy.
