Delta has applied for a new development consent for Chain Valley Colliery, which would extend the mine's operations for two years to the end of 2029 – supporting hundreds of local jobs while ensuring the continued operations and reliability of Vales Point Power Station during NSW’s energy transition.
The application is currently under NSW Government assessment. The Independent Planning Commission has commenced a public consultation process for the project, following the referral of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure’s assessment for the Commission’s determination.
As part of this process, the Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday 19 February 2026 and is inviting submissions from community members and stakeholders until Friday 26 February 2026.
The public consultation provides an opportunity to review the Department’s assessment and provide feedback before the Commission makes its determination.
For more information about the project, including key documents, details of the public hearing, and how to make a submission, visit Delta’s Chain Valley Colliery Consolidation Project webpage.
