Chain Valley Colliery Consolidation Project approved

News

Delta welcomes the approval of the Chain Valley Colliery Consolidation Project by the NSW Independent Planning Commission on Thursday 9 April 2026.

The approval consolidates the existing approvals for the Chain Valley and Mannering Collieries under a single, contemporary consent and extends the mine’s operations for two years to the end of 2029 – supporting hundreds of local mining jobs and ensuring a continued, secure local coal supply to Vales Point Power Station.

The mine supplies coal exclusively to Vales Point Power Station, providing around 50% of the power station’s coal needs. It plays an important role in supporting reliable electricity generation and system stability in NSW during the energy transition.

Chain Valley Colliery is a major employer and significant contributor to the Central Coast and Hunter economies, supporting over 330 direct workers and procuring goods and services from local suppliers.

Delta acknowledges the conditions of consent and is committed to implementing them in consultation with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and relevant regulatory authorities.

We thank the Commissioners for their consideration, and all stakeholders and community members who participated in the assessment process.
