Celebrating young environmental champions

News

Bright ideas, real impact. From bee-friendly gardens to smart energy initiatives, local students are showing what innovation and sustainability look like in action.

The Lake Macquarie School Environment Awards, proudly supported by Delta, celebrate the creativity, curiosity, and commitment of students tackling real-world environmental challenges.

A shout out to the 2025 Innovation and Energy Award winners – it was great to celebrate these achievements with the students!

Innovation Award – Wiripaang Public School
The Humble Honey Bee Project teaches students how bees support ecosystems and food production. From insect hotels, bee-friendly plantings and wildlife boxes to solar panels, water-saving initiatives, and recycling programs, these students are turning ideas into real impact.

Energy Award – Hunter Sports High
Hunter Sports High impressed with practical energy solutions including solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, water-saving projects, and school gardens. These initiatives help lower the school’s energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and encourage sustainable habits. The school’s efforts show that small actions, when combined, can create a significant positive impact on the environment.

At Delta, we’re proud to support initiatives that empower young people to develop curiosity, leadership, and innovation – skills that will shape a sustainable energy future. The Awards also reflect our long-standing commitment to supporting the environment, safety, and wellbeing of the communities where we operate.

Congratulations to all the students, teachers and schools involved in this year’s awards!
